Dental crowns

A crown is a dental restoration that fits over the remaining part of a tooth, helping to strengthen it and making it look like a whole, natural tooth once more.

Modern crowns are created in a dental laboratory using the very latest ceramic material by skilled craftsmen to give the combination of a perfect fit and completely natural appearance.

We may recommend a crown for a number of reasons:

  • Your tooth may be very decayed and not strong enough to be filled any more
  • The top part of the tooth may have been accidentally damaged
  • You may need a crown following root canal treatment
  • Crowns are also sometimes needed to help support a dental bridge

Dental bridges

A dental bridge can provide a permanent and realistic looking way of filling a gap caused by one or more missing teeth.

Unlike traditional removable dentures, a dental bridge is fixed. The dental restoration spans the space where the teeth are missing and is held in place by being cemented to the teeth on each side of it.

A bridge is usually made of a precious metal base such as gold, with tooth coloured porcelain bonded to any visible areas to make it look natural.

Bridges are not the only option for replacing missing teeth. Alternatives include dentures and implants.

To help you spread the cost of your regular dental care and help you to keep your mouth healthy we offer a convenient and easy monthly payment plan.

If you have one or more missing teeth please book an appointment at our practice in E14 so we can discuss the best way to restore your smile.

Missing teeth? We can help!

Dental implants provide a realistic, strong and fixed way of replacing missing teeth. They can be used to replace a single tooth or a number of teeth, and can also be used as a much more comfortable and convenient method of keeping dentures in place.

Replace missing teeth with dental implants

Implants are small devices which are, in effect, false tooth roots. Made out of titanium metal, they are placed gently into the jaw bone and left in place until they bond with the bone. This creates a strong and permanent support for replacement teeth, which are specifically shaped and coloured to provide a perfect match to your other teeth.

Why have dental implants?

Dental implants can eliminate gaps and chewing discomfort so that you are able to smile with confidence and eat a complete diet.

For denture wearers, implants can mean the end of embarrassment and frustration caused by a slipping denture. Speak confidently and enjoy your favourite foods again.

Missing teeth can cause your jawbone to shrink resulting in that ‘sucked in’ look. Dental implants can prevent bone loss and help you maintain your facial structure.

An attractive, healthy smile can play an important role in your general health and well-being. It can help you to look and feel your best.

Dentures have been used to replace missing teeth for many years. They are removable replacements that are designed to look and function like your natural teeth.

Full and partial dentures

A complete or full denture is one that replaces all the natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaws. A partial denture fills the spaces left by lost or missing teeth. They can also be used alongside dental implants.

Modern, better fitting dentures

Modern techniques and materials mean that dentures can now be a far better fit, making eating and speaking much easier, and they also look far more natural than in the past.

High end cosmetic, flexi dentures

At East India Dock Road Dental Practice, our patients benefit from high end cosmetic, flexi dentures. They are strong, comfortable, lightweight and natural looking. If you have lost all or most of your teeth and/or are not happy with your current denture, please get in touch to find out how we can help.

Non surgical facial aesthetic treatments

We are aware that many people not only want a great smile but would also like to look younger and/or improve the condition of their skin. Due to this we now provide non-surgical facial aesthetic treatments, carefully researched and chosen because we believe them to be amongst the safest and most effective available.

Reduce lines and wrinkles

Facial aesthetic treatments can help to remove or reduce lines, improve facial contours and give you a smoother, fresher complexion. As dentists we are ideally placed to carry these treatments out because of our advanced knowledge of the structure of facial tissue, and our experience in carrying out intricate procedures.

Cosmetic injection treatment

For lines caused by muscle movements, such as frown lines, creases on the forehead and crows’ feet around the eyes, we use an approved cosmetic injection treatment. This causes the treated muscles to relax, softening and smoothing the wrinkles.

Dermal fillers

We also provide dermal fillers which are made from a natural material which binds with the water within your skin to lift it and make it firmer. Dermal fillers can be used to make your lips look fuller and less lined around the edges, and can also improve your facial contours and smooth facial lines.

If you would like to know more about these treatments, please get in touch and book a no-obligation consultation.

Orthodontic Treatment at Wapping Dental Centre

Our teeth serve many functions. A smile that is well aligned is also healthy. Straight teeth are easy to keep clean, free of harmful plaque that causes decay and gum disease. Well aligned teeth and jaws provide optimal function. Tooth wear is greatly reduced, and the jaw joints are allowed to function with less stress and greater comfort.

For most people, a spectacular smile is the most obvious benefit of orthodontics. Nobody can deny that straight teeth are visually appealing. A beautiful smile leads to enhanced self-esteem, and is universally accepted sign of health and beauty. When teeth and bite aren't straight, health, function and aesthetics are compromised. After your braces come off, you'll definitely feel more self-confident!

Beautifully straight teeth

Having your teeth straightened can be a real confidence booster, and the great news is that these days there are many different options available. At Wapping Dental Centre, we offer a number of orthodontic systems. These include fixed appliances and removable, near-invisible, methods, such as Invisalign© and lingual orthodontics, Incognito©, 6 Month Smiles, HDL Aligner (clear Aligner) and Inman Aligner.

If you are unhappy or self-conscious about your teeth but don’t like the thought of wearing braces for 18 months or longer, then Inman Aligner orthodontic treatment may be the answer for you.(please see our video demonstration)

The revolutionary Inman Aligner and HDL Aligner (clear aligner) can straighten teeth in just 2-3 months. They offer a great solution for patients who are self-conscious about their misaligned teeth, but who don’t want to commit to lengthy treatments.

They are also suitable for those whose appearance is important to them, as the thin, transparent acrylic at the front of the teeth makes it much less visible than traditional ‘train-track’ braces.

The appliances are removable, which means you can still eat whatever you like, and you can clean your teeth as normal.

Orthdontics - Before & After

Healthy teeth and gums for life

At East India Dock Road, our dental team focuses on preventive dentistry to help you to achieve and maintain healthy teeth and gums for life. We want you to be confident that your breath is fresh and your smile looks its best.

The importance of regular dental check-ups

When you visit us for a dental check-up, it gives us the chance to spot any potential problems at an early stage, so we can treat them quickly, often saving you time and expense. Our examination also includes a mouth cancer screening – this condition is on the increase, and early diagnosis makes a huge difference to survival rates.

Helping you to avoid / combat gum disease

Our hygienist can play a key role in helping you to maintain a healthy mouth, and avoiding problems such as decay and gum disease (the biggest cause of tooth loss in adults). During your visit the hygienist will clean your teeth professionally, removing plaque (a constantly-forming layer of sticky bacteria which causes gum disease) and leaving your teeth fresh and clean.

Oral healthcare advice

As well as visiting us regularly, it is important to maintain a good daily oral healthcare routine at home. During your appointments, we will be happy to give you advice about the best way to care for your teeth. This can include guidance on effective brushing techniques and dietary advice to help you avoid decay and keep your teeth looking their best. , our dental team focuses on preventive dentistry to help you to achieve and maintain healthy teeth and gums for life. What is tooth whitening?

Tooth whitening can be a very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface. It cannot make a complete colour change, but it may lighten the existing shade.

Who can whiten my teeth?

By law, only dentists, dental therapists, dental hygienists and clinical dental technicians working to the prescription of a dentist can legally perform tooth whitening.

Why would I need my teeth whitened?

There are a number of reasons why you might get your teeth whitened. Everyone is different; and just as our hair and skin colour vary, so do our teeth. Very few people have brilliant-white teeth, and our teeth can also become more discoloured as we get older.

Your teeth can also be stained on the surface by food and drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine and blackcurrant. Smoking can also stain teeth.

Some people may have staining under the surface, which can be caused by certain antibiotics or by tiny cracks in the teeth which take up stains.

What does tooth whitening involve?

Your dentist will first take an impression of your teeth and send this to a dental technician, who will build a tray to the exact measurements of your mouth. You will then be provided with your custom-made teeth-whitening trays and the appropriate gels.Your dentist will check that the tray fits and demonstrate how to carry out the procedure at home.

The tray fits closely around the teeth, and is filled with a whitening gel. The ‘active ingredient' in the product is usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. As the active ingredient is broken down, oxygen gets into the enamel on the teeth and the tooth colour is made lighter. Depending on the strength of peroxide in the gel, these trays are usually worn for a couple of hours a day or overnight. Treatment can take anywhere from three days to a couple of weeks.

Tooth whitening will not change the colour of fillings, veneers or crowns, so it is important to discuss your suitability with your dentist.

Modern dental techniques mean that tooth coloured restorations (composite fillings, or composite and porcelain inlays) are an effective and conservative way to restore broken teeth.

When is a Tooth Colour Restoration considered?

Tooth Coloured Restorations are often ideal in the following:

  • To repair cavities
  • To repair chipped or broken teeth
  • To change the colour of discoloured teeth.
  • To close gaps between front teeth.
  • To make teeth look longer
  • As an alternative to silver amalgam fillings.
  • To protect the roots of teeth when gums recede

Transform your smile with dental veneers

Dental veneers are a popular cosmetic treatment, and are often used on television makeover programmes because they are so versatile and effective.

Veneers are very thin layers of porcelain which are bonded to the front of your teeth, a bit like a false fingernail fits over a nail.

They are custom-made in a dental laboratory to ensure they fit perfectly and look completely natural. They can make a big difference to your smile.

Dental veneers are very versatile

Veneers can disguise a wide variety of imperfections such as:

  • Teeth that are cracked or chipped
  • Teeth that are worn down
  • Teeth that are misaligned or misshaped
  • Teeth that are stained or discoloured
  • Gaps between teeth
